Basic Science education, with strong fundamentals, is essential not only for strengthning science education but indispensable ingradient for sustainable engineering education and creating a sustainable eco system for basic science research and catering the need of scientific developments in R&D institutions. Keeping in mind this need, IIT Patna started two year M.Sc programs in basic sciences from 2016 onwards. Encourged with the success of the ongoing M.Sc programs in all the three streams, an integrated M.SC - Ph.D dual degree program is scheduled to start from academic year 2023-24 onwards. Candidates opting for M.SC - Ph.D dual degree through JAM may not need GATE/NET qualification for pursuing Ph.D program subject to fulfilment of minimum eligiblity conditions at the end of 4th semester of M.Sc.
Entry in these programs every year is throug national examination - JAM.
