To foster healthy competition among students of each stream leading to excellence, leadership and holistic achievment, several Awards and Medals have been instituted to recognize their talent and acknowledge performance during their academic journey at IIT Patna. To continue with this pursuit aimed at inculcating and fostering equal opprtunity for all, a number of Awards and Medals are conferred to successfull candidates every year based on recommendation of the Senate and subsequent approval of the Board of Governors' (BoG) of IIT Patna. The criteria laid down for each of Awards and Medals are given below:
President's Gold Medal
Scope: President Gold Medal is awarded to one outgoing Undergraduate (i.e. B.Tech/BS) student of a batch solely based on excellent academic performance across all UG branches, measured in terms of the highest CPI at the end of the 8th semester.
Eligibility Criteria: Student(s) excelling solely in academic performance with CPI (≥9.0) at the end of 8th semester without any backlog across all the UG branches (i.e. B.Tech/BS) at the end of the 8th Semester would be awarded President's Gold Medal following due process of evaluation, recommendation of the Senate and approval of the Board of Governors (BoG) of IIT Patna in accordance with the Institute Rules.
Quantum of Award: The awardee would receive a Gold Medal and certificate during annual convocation.
Conditions of ineligibility:
- The awardee should not have been found guilty in any disciplinary proceedings and/or a pending disciplinary proceeding as well as backlog cases at the time of the consideration for this award throughout his stay as student at IIT Patna.
- In case, there is no eligible candidate in an academic year, based on the eligibility and selection criteria stated above, this award/ medal/ prize may not be conferred that year.
Director's Gold Medal
Scope: Director gold medal is awarded to one outgoing Undergraduate (i.e; B.Tech/BS) student every year based on overall academic performance along with positive contribution to the Institute Activity comprising Academics, Campus Life, Social Services and Evidenced Leadership qualities.
Eligibility Criteria: Student(s) excelling in academic performance with CPI (≥8.5) at the end of 8th semester without any backlog and overall contribution to the Institute Corporate activities comprising Campus Life, Social Services and Evidenced Leadership qualities would be considered for the award of Director's Gold Medal. The selection parameters along with their weightage are stated herein below.

Based on an overall assessment, following due process of evaluation, recommendation of the Senate and approval of the Board of Governers (BoG) of IIT Patna, a candidate would be considered for the award of Director's Gold Medal, in accordance with the Institute Rules.
Quantum of Award: The awardee would receive a Gold Medal and certificate during annual convocation.

Institute Silver Medal to be awarded to Undergraduate and Postgraduate streams (i.e. B.Tech/BS/M.Tech/MS/MSc) every year
Scope: The Institute Silver Medal has been instituted to promote excellence in every branch of studies at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level to recognize talent and acknowledge their academic performance to foster healthy competition among students of each stream leading to excellence.
Eligibility Criteria: Student(s) securing highest CPI (≥8.0) without any backlog measured in terms of overall academic performance in his/her stream on completion of undergraduate/ postgraduate programs of studies at IIT Patna would be awarded Institute Silver medal following due process of evaluation, recommendation of the Senate and approval of the Board of Governors (BoG) of IIT Patna in accordance with the Institute Rules.
Quantum of Award: The awardee would receive a Silver Medal and certificate during annual convocation.
Conditions of ineligibility:
- The awardee should not have been found guilty in any disciplinary proceedings and/or a pending disciplinary proceeding as well as backlog cases at the time of the consideration for this award throughout his stay as student at IIT Patna.
- In case, there is no eligible candidate in an academic year, based on the eligibility and selection criteria stated above, this award/ medal/ prize may not be conferred that year.
Chairman's Gold Medal
Scope: Chairman's Gold Medal is awarded to one outgoing Postgraduate (i.e. M.Tech/MS) student of a batch solely based on excellent academic performance across all PG branches, measured in terms of the highest CPI at the end of the 4th semester.
Eligibility Criteria: Student(s) excelling solely in academic performance with CPI (≥9.0) at the end of 4th semester without any backlog across all the PG branches in Technology programs (i.e. M.Tech/MS) at the end of the 4th Semester would be awarded Chairman's Gold Medal following due process of evaluation, recommendation of the Senate and approval of the Board of Governors (BoG) of IIT Patna in accordance with the Institute Rules.
Quantum of Award: The awardee would receive a Gold Medal and certificate during annual convocation.
Conditions of ineligibility:
- The awardee should not have been found guilty in any disciplinary proceedings and/or a pending disciplinary proceeding as well as backlog cases at the time of the consideration for this award throughout his stay as student at IIT Patna.
- In case, there is no eligible candidate in an academic year, based on the eligibility and selection criteria stated above, this award/ medal/ prize may not be conferred that year.
Aryabhatt Gold Medal
Scope: Aryabhatt Gold Medal is awarded to one outgoing Postgraduate in science stream (i.e. MSc) student of a batch solely based on excellent academic performance across all PG branches in science stream, measured in terms of the highest CPI at the end of the 4th semester.
Eligibility Criteria: Student(s) excelling solely in academic performance with CPI (≥9.0) at the end of 4th semester without any backlog across all the PG branches in science steam (i.e. MSc) at the end of the 4th Semester would be awarded Aryabhatt Gold Medal following due process of evaluation, recommendation of the Senate and approval of the Board of Governors (BoG) of IIT Patna in accordance with the Institute Rules.
Quantum of Award: The awardee would receive a Gold Medal and certificate during annual convocation.
Conditions of ineligibility:
- The awardee should not have been found guilty in any disciplinary proceedings and/or a pending disciplinary proceeding as well as backlog cases at the time of the consideration for this award throughout his stay as student at IIT Patna.
- In case, there is no eligible candidate in an academic year, based on the eligibility and selection criteria stated above, this award/ medal/ prize may not be conferred that year.
Kedarnath Memorial Prize
Scope: Kedar Nath Das Memorial prize of Rs.10000 is given to an outgoing B.Tech students in Computer Science and Engineering for excellence in terms of overall academic performance along with positive contribution to the Institute Activity comprising Academics, Research (publication, incubation, project), Campus Life, Social Services and Evidenced Leadership qualities.
Eligibility Criteria: Outgoing Student(s) of CSE excelling in academic performance with CPI (≥8.5) at the end of 8th semester without any backlog and overall contribution to the Institute Corporate activities comprising Campus Life, Social Services and Evidenced Leadership qualities would be considered for the award of Director's Gold Medal. The selection parameters along with their weightage are stated herein below.

Based on an overall assessment, following due process of evaluation, recommendation of the Senate and approval of the Board of Governors (BoG) of IIT Patna, a candidate would be considered for the award of Kedar Nath Das Memorial prize, in accordance with the Institute Rules.
Quantum of Award: The awardee would receive cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- and certificate of proficiency during annual convocation.
Conditions of ineligibility:
- The awardee should not have been found guilty in any disciplinary proceedings and/or a pending disciplinary proceeding as well as backlog cases at the time of the consideration for this award throughout his stay as student at IIT Patna.
- In case, there is no eligible candidate in an academic year, based on the eligibility and selection criteria stated above, this award/ medal/ prize may not be conferred that year.
Dibyendu Mukherjee Prize
Scope: An endowment prize was instituted by Professor Dibyendu Mukherjee exclusively for outstanding BTech Project research in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (CBE). A cash prize is awarded to two best Project work, in order of merit, leading to partial fulfilment of B.Tech in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. The award prize of Rs.20,000 and Rs. 10,000/- is given to the two best project work in order of merit based on recommendation of departmental evaluation committee and grade awarded.
Eligibility Criteria: Outgoing Student(s) of CBE without any backlog excelling in their B.Tech project work to in order of merit (Best 1st and 2nd B.Tech Project every year) and grade awarded for the same based on merit at the end of 8th semester without any backlog.
Quantum of Award: Two prizes (1st with a cash prize of Rs 20,000/- and 2nd with cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-) would be awarded along with a certificate of proficiency during annual convocation.
Conditions of ineligibility:
- The awardee should not have been found guilty in any disciplinary proceedings and/or a pending disciplinary proceeding as well as backlog cases at the time of the consideration for this award throughout his stay as student at IIT Patna.
- In case, there is no eligible candidate in an academic year, based on the eligibility and selection criteria stated above, this award/ medal/ prize may not be conferred that year.
Best Project to be awarded
Scope: An endowment cash prize of Rs. 5,000/- is to be awarded to encourage good quality research project work (best Project- BTP) leading to partial fulfilment for the award of UG degree ( i.e. B.Tech/BS) in respective branch of studies. The award prize of Rs 5,000/- is given for best project work in order of merit to one candidate each in every UG program (i.e. B.Tech/BS) based on recommendation of departmental evaluation committee and grade awarded for the same.
Eligibility Criteria: Outgoing Student(s) of UG Program ( i.e. B.Tech/BS) without any backlog excelling in their B.Tech project work (Best BTP every year) in order of merit and grade awarded for the same at the end of 8th semester without any backlog.
Quantum of Award: A cash prize of Rs. 5,000/- would be awarded along with a certificate of proficiency during annual convocation to one candidate each from every branch of B.Tech. program.
Conditions of ineligibility:
- The awardee should not have been found guilty in any disciplinary proceedings and/or a pending disciplinary proceeding as well as backlog cases at the time of the consideration for this award throughout his stay as student at IIT Patna.
- In case, there is no eligible candidate in an academic year, based on the eligibility and selection criteria stated above, this award/ medal/ prize may not be conferred that year.
Best Masters' Project
Scope: An endowment cash prize of Rs. 5,000/- is to be awarded to encourage good quality research project work (best Masters' Project-MTP) leading to partial fulfilment for the award of PG degree ( i.e. M.Tech/MS/MSc) in respective branch of Engineering and Science Stream. The award prize of Rs 5,000/- is given for the best project work in order of merit to one candidate each in every PG program (i.e. M.Tech/ MS/MSc) based on recommendation of departmental evaluation committee and grade awarded for the same.
Eligibility Criteria: Outgoing Student(s) of PG Program (i.e. M.Tech/MS/MSc) excelling in their Masters' project work (Best Masters' Project every year) in order of merit and grade awarded for the same at the end of 4th semester without any backlog.
Quantum of Award: A cash prize of Rs. 5,000/- would be awarded along with a certificate of proficiency during annual convocation to one candidate each from every branch of PG program ((i.e. M.Tech/MS/MSc).
Conditions of ineligibility:
- The awardee should not have been found guilty in any disciplinary proceedings and/or a pending disciplinary proceeding as well as backlog cases at the time of the consideration for this award throughout his stay as student at IIT Patna.
